Five Hot Tips to Beat the Heat
As the days get longer (and hotter), it’s important to take care of yourself. Whether you’re spending this summer exploring the outdoors, experimenting with new recipes or improving your mental and physical wellbeing, these five tips can help you have fun and stay safe during the warmer months.
- Share Your Story
You don’t have to run a marathon or climb a mountain to improve your overall well-being (but if you have, we’d love to hear about that, too)! Whether you started playing pickleball after work or are making more plant-based meals for your family, we want to know how you kickstarted your health goals this summer and share any positive outcomes you’ve seen so far. We can’t wait to hear from you!
Tell Us! - Use SPF 30
Did you know you don’t need to use the highest SPF possible to better protect your skin? According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, products with SPF 30 protect against 97% of the sun’s rays, while SPF 50 protects just 98%. Sunscreen is also eligible for reimbursement if you’re enrolled in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or a Health Savings Account (HSA). So, before you head out the door and enjoy the sunshine, consider grabbing sun protection with SPF 30 to take with you—and be sure to apply generously and often!
Learn More - Expand Your Grill Menu
It’s grilling season! While traditional grilling focuses on meats, there are a variety of plant-based alternatives that are in-season, sustainable and packed with flavor. You can grill “firm” vegetables like zucchini, carrots and corn to add flavor and versatility to any dish. If you’re making a salad, consider adding grilled fruits, such as watermelon and peach halves, to get an extra boost of essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that benefit your health.
Learn More - Protect Your Eyes from Harmful UV Rays
Sunglasses look fun and stylish, but they serve a critical job in protecting your eyes from harmful UV rays. When shopping for sunglasses, look for lenses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays and are made from polycarbonate material—which make them lightweight, durable and scratch-resistant! If you’re enrolled in the Rockwell Vision Plan, polycarbonate lenses are free for covered dependents under age 18 and only $33 for covered dependents age 19 or older (19+).
Learn More - Give Back with the ROK in Action Program
ROK in Action is our global volunteer program with a convenient online portal that allows you to participate in local volunteer opportunities, make monetary contributions and help build a volunteer-focused employee community. You can take up to 24 hours of paid time off each year to volunteer with an approved non-governmental organization (NGO) of your choice.
